Like Our Own was formed in Sept of 2021, to provide housing to youth within the foster care, juvenile justice system, or who have suffered from traumatic life experiences. We invested in listening, learning, evolving, and taking actionable steps to ensure a more equitable, just, and inclusive community where every child is afforded the same opportunities, now and in the future. One of our many goals is to help our youth make a successful transition to adulthood. Like Our Own isn’t just a name to us; it’s a philosophy. We believe every human, and especially every child, deserves a loving place to call home. We provide open welcoming arms for kids who have nowhere else to
turn.
At Like Our Own Group Home, we offer kids not just shelter and food, but a stable, safe environment with holistic care for body, mind, and spirit. This might look like a listening ear, a hug, or aligning a court advocate; and provide a place where they can authentically be themselves. Our purpose is to provide a place where children 8-14 that have been removed from their home, can experience an environment of acceptance, safety and consistency. Our program’s mission is to create a home where every child that walks through our doors will be treated Like Our Own, with Love, respect and compassion.
Our Mission statement comes from the heart of the CEO and Founder Brandi Martin. She has dedicated her life to creating a soft safe place in the world for kids to land, stay, and experience what lasting loving care feels like; it’s more than a group home, it’s truly a family. Her personal experiences from a young age has opened the door to the passion behind LOO, and is one of the driving factors of the program’s model, methods and goals.
In addition to providing a Home for our youth , emotional support, counseling, health and education are our primary goals. Family reunification, when possible, is the ultimate program goal.
